Meantime, a correction on the location of the dead anchovies -- it was Redondo Beach marina, a west-facing L.A. area beach community.  And it wasn't just thousands, but millions.  Here's a link to a story on this:

MIDDAY UPDATE

And farther up the coast in the Ventura area, more breaking news:  a rupture in an oil pipe sent over 100 gallons of oil spilling into Ventura Harbor.  Local authorities are already on the case trying to seal up the break and clean up the spill.  Very interesting, all this stuff today off our local coast.

And an update on the anchovies:  They're reporting that a red tide was not to blame; instead, the fish appeared to have died from a lack of oxygen in the water.  Prior to their death, they may have been chased into the marina by a "predator fish."
